- Alternative / modern rock
- Grunge and punk influences throughout the music
Musical Influences:
- Smashing pumpkins, Pearl Jam, the Beatles, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Sound Garden, REM
How did the band form?
- Originally Scott and a drummer started the group about four years ago (2005)
- Since then, Scott has worked with a number of musicians who have come and left
- Scott has been the sole contributor, continuing to make music under the name “Making a Monster”
- Scott found Nathan through an ad posting on Musolist.com (an online website for musicians)
- Group is primarily drums and guitar – signed on local label – Oak Apple Records (http://oakapplerecords.com/)
- Scott and Nathan have been working together for just over a year
Describe your stage show?
- Currently performing acoustic versions of songs
- Brings a full spectrum of emotions to a show
- Will be starting a tour later this year – check their website for future details
Describe the music making process
- Has become more intricate over time
- Most of the song writing is done by Scott, but are starting to write more songs as a group
- Since recording “Wild” the songs have become softer and more acoustic – less thrashy
- Music has become less political and more of a reflection of their experiences and lives
Does the band have any recordings?
- First album - “Wild” - 12 tracks
- Album was recorded at Power Sound Studio, Beta Sound Studios and All You Need is Love Studios (Scott’s apartment)
- Next album (Quiet) – to be release later in 2010 (August)
What’s been your biggest challenge so far?
- Getting music out to the public (The supply of different genres of music far outweighs the demand)

- Comparisons to Ween, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, and the Butthole Surfers

- Ween, Rush, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin
- Modern style – indie music
- A variety of artists and genres
How did the band form?
- Dan and Derek started the group
- Started jamming occasionally which lead to the creation of Taking Medication
- Nathan (Brother Sutton) joined the group six months ago
Describe your stage show?
- Very zany and humorous performance – echoes their personalities
- Christmas lights decorated all over the stage
- Have a cardboard cut-out of a giant Spock figure (helps them keep it logical)
- All members wear lab coats during their performance
- Will do some covers:
o Country version of Lucky by Radiohead
o Johnny Cash covers
o Wayleen Jennings “Clyde”
o Dracula by Bubonic Plague

- Band is very collaborative with everybody writing songs (everybody pitches in)
- Everybody is a songwriter
- Band focuses on quirky, humorous themes
- New record ranges from humorous and ridiculous songs to political songs
- Try not to write a whole record that is serious
- Trying to make people happy

- Self-Titled Album
o Favorite song on the album is “Pipe Bomb Party”
- Recorded at Zounds of Sounds (Dan Mabee) studio
- Mastered by Stew Kirkwood at Sound Extractor
